[TL]    Tunis Lake

The Lake of Tunis connects the capital city of Tunis and the Gulf of Tunis (Mediterranean Sea). In last hundred years, the lake contributes a lot to this city but also become more problematic.

[ENV] Environment

Since Tunis Lake formed, which was once the natural harbour of Tunis before, it has shrinked a lot because of climate change. The srhinkage of the lake affected the living environment of people here and the city followed the change to expand. Now the lake covers a total of 37 square kilometres which is around 2/3 the origin size in thousand year ago.

[SOC] Socio-political

In past ten years, the population around the lake decreased. More urban infrastructure was built on the north bank of Tunis Lake, while the popular class lived on the south bank. The southern lake was neglected until the end of the 1990s and in 2004 the clean-up project was completed. During the southern lake clean-up project, significant undertakings were applied, such as reshaping and dredging the lake.
